With the introduction of a series of policies to support photovoltaic power generation, domestic photovoltaic power generation has experienced explosive growth. In 2013, China's new PV installed capacity reached 12GW, an increase of 232% year-on-year, surpassing Germany to become the world's largest PV market.

Dong Xiaojun, director of the Sichuan Preparatory Office of the Three Gorges New Energy Company, recently rushed to San Francisco and Panzhihua to select a suitable photovoltaic power generation project site. His work diary records the projects to be done this year: “Huili County, installed 20,000 kilowatts; Huidong County, installed 150,000 kilowatts; Puig County, 100,000 kilowatts. This year we have 50,000 kilowatts of photovoltaic power generation On-grid." This is just a microcosm of the domestic power generation giants entering Sichuan to seek photovoltaic power business opportunities. At present, the five major power generation groups have basically entered the Sichuan to develop photovoltaic power generation. The Yanbian County Photovoltaic Power Generation Project, which was invested and constructed by China Hydropower Construction Group and has a total installed capacity of 1.2 million kilowatts, has also started construction. It is expected to be put into operation in 2016.

Statistics from the Provincial Energy Administration show that the province's grid-connected photovoltaic power plants are currently installed with 30,000 kilowatts, and three projects with an installed capacity of 50,000 kilowatts are under construction. A total of 20 projects have been installed for 202,000 kilowatts, and a number of projects are in the preliminary work. This year, the total installed capacity of photovoltaic power generation in our province will reach 200,000 kilowatts.

According to the National Energy Administration's plan, in 2014, domestic PV power plants installed 14 million kilowatts, an increase of 24% compared with 11.3 million kilowatts in 2013. In 2014, the distributed photovoltaic power was about 8 million kilowatts (up 135% compared with 2013), and the ground photovoltaic power station was about 6 million kilowatts.

Liu Tao, a senior analyst in the photovoltaic industry, believes that the photovoltaic industry will continue to grow in the context of a definite increase in global economic growth recovery and continued guidance from domestic policies, which will help PV companies increase component exports and local market digestion. However, if there is excessive expansion, there are also hidden concerns. "It is still cautious to survive. We don't want to repeat the same mistakes," said a manager of a polysilicon company in Sichuan.
